Like the magicians of the sky, British Airways can make pretty much anything disappear completely...
As soon as your luggage is checked in, it travels through a temporal vortex that instantaneously transports it to a sorting office somewhere in Mumbai, (that is of course unless Mumbai is your final destination). From there, luggage is divided amongst a number of 'luggage redistribution engineers' who transport it to various places around the world to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

It's a complex procedure, and you're paying for it through British Airways' ridiculously high prices.
